Green flag. Orange flag. Red flag

Green flag. Orange flag. Red flag – What is this?

I can tell you it’s not legal and if I were you – I would be asking myself, “what is she talking about?”.

Well, this week I have been listening on my iPod Nano (thank you Santa) to Dr Joe Vitale, an American marketing and e-marketing expert.

He has made lots of Dollars, so I am always happy to listen to him during my drive to the office.

…and this is a little gem.

Do you run your life on “Try ,try, try again” or “keep on pushing and you will get there”?

Dr Vitale’s advice is don’t. Just don’t. He says that in our lives there are flags.

And they come in three different colours – green, orange & red.

If we’re pursuing something all we have to do is recognise the flags and we will know whether we are going to get that thing we’re after or not.

This is what I am talking about:

Recently, I decided I wanted to speak with someone to help develop my business. I made one phone call, had one chat and we are doing business together. Green flags all the way.

Compare this with another business I wanted to work with:

Lots of phone calls and emails and nagging and chasing over weeks all for a big and resounding “NO”.

Looking back, there were orange flags all over the place. They were on the unanswered emails, the prevaricating replies and the half-promises. If I had seen and heeded the orange flags I would have stopped pushing well before I got the red flag. I would have saved my time, I would have looked elsewhere, I wouldn’t have invested so much personally into the attempt.

So, the moral is – Keep an eye out for the flags.

Thanks for reading this non-legal email. I hope you enjoyed it. There is legal stuff free on my blog www.blog.mybusinesslawyer.co.uk.
