Rat Risotto

by Gwyneth on December 8, 2009

Well two hungry contestants in “I’m a Celebrity…. get me out of here!” have certainly stirred up a bit more than a risotto.

Apparently they were hungry and tired of the programme’s rations so helped themselves to a rat which was just sort of running around in New South Wales, Australia. The pair are now facing Court and a possible jail sentence.

The lesson is – mind the Law of the land where you are. Be careful of jurisdiction.

Although to my knowledge none of my clients has been in this sort of situation some have entered into contracts for which the stated jurisdiction is a foreign country.

This means that if the contract went wrong any dispute has to be handled in a foreign country with different Laws, language and procedures. Truly a nightmare.

When you are entering into a written agreement please be sure that the jurisdiction stated in that agreement is the Law of England and Wales. If there is a dispute our own Courts will handle it. We understand how the agreement will be interpreted.

There will be no nasty surprises like these two guys and ITV have had. If in doubt get Legal advice first.
